Another day, another big name college player deciding to head to the NFL.
Wilson was the ACC’s leading rusher this season with 1,709 yards and nine touchdowns. He had 82 yards rushing on 24 carries in the Hokies’ 23-20 overtime loss to Michigan in the Sugar Bowl on Tuesday.
Wilson’s departure, along with Josh Oglesby’s graduation, means that Virginia Tech will need to find a new starting running back next season.
Meanwhile, Temple running back Bernard Pierce has announced he will go pro as well.
Pierce, who led the Mid-American Conference is rushing, made his decision on Friday.
“Since I was a little kid, I dreamed of one day playing for an NFL team,” Pierce said. “Today, I take one step closer to fulfilling that dream. It has been a hard decision to make, and took a lot of soul-searching, but I believe that it is the right decision for me and my career.
He rushed for 1,381 yards and 25 touchdowns this season, leading the Owls to a 9-4 season under first-year coach Steve Addazio.
He finishes his career as the all-time leader in rushing touchdowns (53), total touchdowns (54), and points scored (324).
Underclassmen have until Jan. 15 to decide to enter their name into the NFL Draft. The draft is April 26-28 in New York City.
