Background on D.C. United selection Nick DeLeon:
A 5-10, 170-pound wide midfielder for Louisville, DeLeon scored six goals with six assists in 2011 for the Cardinals, who advanced to the NCAA quarterfinals before falling to UCLA, 1-0, in double overtime.
DeLeon finished his two-year career at Louisville with 14 goals and nine assists.
DeLeon has already signed with MLS, and provides more attacking flexibility for United. DeLeon’s father, LeRoy DeLeon, a Trinidad & Tobago international, played for the Washington Diplomats from 1974-77.
I’ll have more on the selection, including quotes from DeLeon and United Coach Ben Olsen, in tomorrow’s paper.
